Description
Adventures of Sulwe is an original acoustic and poetry performance that takes audiences on a journey through identity, belonging, love, growth and self-discovery. Through Sulwe’s experiences, the work examines questions of who we are, where we come from, and how our stories shape the people we become. With a running time of 50 minutes, the performance integrates original songs, poetry, live acoustic music and contemporary movement, allowing the narrative to unfold through sound, spoken word, rhythm and physical expression. Presented in Luo, Kiswahili and English, it celebrates Kenya’s rich linguistic and cultural heritage while fostering a shared experience among diverse audiences. Grounded in African storytelling traditions and articulated through contemporary artistic forms, Adventures of Sulwe reimagines theatre as a space in which music, poetry, language, movement and storytelling converge. It invites audiences to engage with African stories not merely as narratives, but as living expressions of memory, culture and imagination. The performance challenges conventional theatrical boundaries and considers what theatre can become when a story is sung, spoken, embodied and experienced.
